The Fair Work Commission has announced a 3.0% increase to minimum wages
As you may be aware, the National Minimum Wage was increased recently. From 1 July, the new national minimum wage is now $740.80 per week or $19.49 per hour.
Importantly, you will need to check all your employees wage rates and where applicable update their payroll details ready for 1 July. The updated rate will often flow through to the relevant Awards, so you should also check any employees under Awards and ensure it complies with all other requirements/changes of the Award (i.e. min wage plus allowances potentially). Special rates also apply to apprentice wages and juniors – for example, juniors must be paid a minimum statutory percentage of the full base amount based on your age. 16 year olds are 36.8% of the Base Rate above for example.
